Carry passports when needed (Menton France experience)
Menton France, French Riviera requires Passport check. Always check local requirements to ensure whether you carry passport or not
We don’t always take our passports when we travel during a day trip, but it is important to check on local requirements. On a recent trip to Menton, France on a guided tour bus, the French police boarded our van and wanted to validate our passports. Luckily they warned us. We were on the border of France and Italy and they were wanting to make sure we had legal documents. We didn’t have our passports but were able to show pictures of our passports on our phones and I was able to show my Apple Wallet validated US Passport from my phone. This resulted a warning instead of additional penalty.
We always worry that our passports could be stolen if we are walking in the street, but not having it on our body when required can also create a problem. Sometimes our Driver’s License is enough to be used when we are traveling in a city, but not o this day.
